Stop worrying so much about cholesterol.

Cholesterol is a nutrient we need to provide a number of functions including production of our sex hormones, Vitamin D-3, and healthy brain function. It definitely is not harmful to your heart or your health. It is so important to our health that we have a liver function to produce the cholesterol we need daily.

While the brain is only 2% of the body weight, 25% of the body’s cholesterol is found in the brain for proper mental function.

A study that had 32 years of data (from 1968 –2001) on cholesterol levels and mental function collected from 1,500 women found declining cholesterol levels from midlife to late life increased risk of dementia. (AD)

What you should be concerned about: low beneficial HDL levels, and increased amounts of inflammatory triglycerides and oxidized cholesterol.

Amla (Indian Gooseberry)

Amla prevents oxidation of LDL cholesterol, reduces triglycerides, and increases HDL levels.

Clinical Trial: 98 people with abnormally high lipids (total cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL cholesterol) received either amla extract (500 mg) or a placebo for 12 weeks.

Results in the amla group:73% had significantly lower total and LDL cholesterol.

89% had a reduction in triglycerides.

In a separate trial of amla versus placebo, HDL levels increased by 14%.

Take 1,000 mg of amla daily.
