Pomegranate Powdered Extract and Seed Oil for Heart Health
This week my pick is pomegranate, both powdered extract and seed oil. Many people tout berries as a super fruit and every berry has its unique benefit and none should stand out above the rest. But in this case, pomegranate stands out for its ability to improve the arteries and blood flow to the heart. In a recent study, two groups were selected, one group to receive a pomegranate extract and the other to receive a placebo (fake pill that looked similar to the real pill). After one year, the plaque in the arteries of the group taking the pomegranate extract was reduced by 30%. The group taking the placebo had 9% additional plaque added to their arteries during the one-year trial. You might think one year is too long to wait before you begin to see results, but think of the period of time that the plaque accumulated, which for many people might be 50, 60, 70 years and possibly even longer. I think to reduce 30% of the plaque in the arteries in one year is a significant reduction. This would be quite comparable to drugs but they come with many side effects while pomegranate has no side effects. Personally, I would use pomegranate powdered extract combined with pomegranate seed oil which will give you the benefits of the whole fruit. A dosage of 2,000 mg of this combination equals 14 ounces of pomegranate juice. The pomegranate powdered extract and seed oil are free of sugar and contain an insignificant amount of calories.
