Our liver is a crucial organ that supports over 300 body functions. Nature must consider the liver critical for good health as it is the only organ that doctors could surgically remove 75% of the liver and it will grow back to its original shape and size. The liver has a major task in converting many of our nutrients to the biologically active form, emulsifying the fats in our diet so they are digested and assimilated. It can help detoxify the body of thousands of toxins and chemicals. Because of the American diet, which is high in sugar and carbohydrates, major portions of a healthy liver can be replaced with fat, which is called non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
To improve the liver function, a number of herbal extracts have been used to regain a healthy composition of the liver. The three most valuable herbs are milk thistle containing silymarin, sesamin, and Silybin, which is one of the most active components of milk thistle. Any one of these three can be beneficial in supporting proper liver function. When employed together, all three herbs can regenerate new, healthy liver cells.
