Meridian Massage May Positively Affect Infant Growth

Meridian massage may improve infant growth and well being. The authors of this study assed the effects of meridian massage versus gentle touch massage on infant's health and physical growth as perceived by mothers. One hundred sixty nine healthy infants received either gentle touch massage (n=80) or meridian massage (n=89) from their mother one time daily for 15 minutes over a 6 week period. Infant weights, height and number of days with illness as perceived by mother were measured. The results showed significant differences between the groups, with infants experiencing meridian massage showing fewer days with perceived illness in relation to the control group. Results suggest that further exploration of the effect of meridian massage in early infancy is needed.
