Coenzyme Q10 Concentration in Adolescents Hospitalized for Anorexia Nervosa


In a study involving 16 adolescent patients hospitalized for anorexia nervosa, decreased concentration of coenzyme Q10 in platelets was found at the time of admission to the hospital, which may suggest mitochondrial depletion. Subjects stayed in the hospital for 12 weeks ("refeeding process"), and at discharge, this deficiency showed improvement. A positive correlation was found between platelet coenzyme Q10 levels and BMI.
