Bee Venom Acupuncture in the Treatment of Frozen Shoulder

In a study involving 68 patients with adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder), subjects who received bee venom acupuncture (16 sessions in 2 months) in combination with physical therapy were found to have significantly greater improvement in outcomes of the "shoulder pain and disability index" at 8 and 12 weeks, the pain visual analogue score (VAS) at rest at 8 weeks, and the pain VAS during exercise at 12 weeks, as compared to the group who received a normal saline injection (control) in combination with physical therapy. The authors conclude, "BVA in combination with PT can be more effective in improving pain and function than PT alone in AC.
