What are your thoughts on Garcinia cambogia for weight loss?
Q. Dear Terry, “What are your thoughts on Garcinia cambogia for weight loss?” — Patricia B., Ocala, FL
A. Dear Patricia, There is no solid documentation or human clinical research supporting the validity of Garcinia cambogia, which has been on the market for over 30 years now.
While there is no easy solution to losing weight, there are legitimate, clinically-studied herbal products that, in combination with healthy diet and exercise, can help make weight loss and weight maintenance easier.
I would consider using green coffee bean extract, which works by enhancing the body’s metabolism and inhibiting the release of glucose in the bloodstream. The green coffee bean extract I recommend is standardized to contain 45-50% chlorogenic acid and has clinical support to back it up. In clinical trials, participants taking this standardized extract lost an average of seven pounds over 60 days, although some lost as much as 17 pounds in the same time period.
I recommend that you start by taking 200 mg of this green coffee bean extract twice daily – the amount used in the clinical study. If additional support is needed, you can gradually increase up to 500 mg three times daily.
When it comes to choosing a green coffee bean extract, be careful because there are a lot of low quality products out there. Recently, ConsumerLabs.com purchased eight commercially sold green coffee bean extracts off store shelves and analyzed them for their contents. Four out of eight failed to comply to label contents. One of the four failed by having absolutely no green coffee bean extract in the capsule. The second only had 6% green coffee bean extract in the capsule. A third had 26% and a fourth had 85%.
