My grandson, age 17, has a terrible case of acne....all over his face, neck & back.
Q. Dear Terry, “My grandson, age 17, has a terrible case of acne....all over his face, neck & back. It gets so bad that it bleeds and is painful. He's been to the dermatologist, who put him on antibiotics, to no avail. Now they want to put him on stronger medications. What do you suggest?” — Sheryl W., Omaha, NE
A. Dear Sheryl, In order to reduce his acne, your grandson should first examine his diet. A healthy diet is crucial to keeping the skin healthy. I recommend not only eliminating gluten, but all grains. For more information, have him review my diet at Terry’s Traditional Diet. For additional information, I also recommend checking out the following websites: www.ketogenic-diet-resource.com and www.drperlmutter.com. He should also read the books, Grain Brain by Dr. David Perlmutter and Wheat Belly by Dr. William Davis. It will change his life.
In addition to the dietary changes, I also recommend a combination of nutrients for treating acne and keeping skin looking healthy. Vitamins (A, B6, pantothenic acid, and C), and minerals (chromium, potassium and zinc), along with sulfur, burdock, and boswellia are crucial for balancing oil production, reducing breakouts, and improving overall skin integrity.
Try the recommendations I’ve outlined here for at least 60 days. Some people will respond right away, in about 1 to 2 weeks, but others need longer to undo the problems that lead to the acne.
