My daughter is 32 years of age and has 3 children and complains of being tired all the time.
Dear Terry, “My daughter is 32 years of age and has 3 children and complains of being tired all the time. She just had a physical and her doctor said everything looked fine. What would you suggest for her to take to boost her energy levels?” — Karen S., Cedar Rapids, IA
Dear Karen, If she has not yet, I highly recommend that your daughter take a good look at her diet. I would recommend restricting all sugar and foods made with sugar, refined flour, and carbohydrates. That means soft drinks, sweetened and diet, crackers, candy, cookies, bread, pasta, cakes and ice cream. While I understand this takes a huge effort, it can make a real difference. Click on my healthy diet plan for more information. For additional information, I also recommend checking out the following websites: www.ketogenic-diet-resource.com and www.drperlmutter.com. She should also read the books, Grain Brain by Dr. David Perlmutter and Wheat Belly by Dr. William Davis.
If she finds she is also having problems with mood, weight gain and cold sensitivity, she may want to visit an integrative healthcare practitioner to have her thyroid function evaluated. Many women have suboptimal thyroid function, especially after the age of 35. If this is the issue, then adding a product that combines healthy doses of iodine with the amino acid L-tyrosine could be extremely beneficial. I’d recommend 30 mg of iodine and 400 mg of L-tyrosine in combination, taken twice daily. This will provide the raw materials necessary for her thyroid glands to make healthy amounts of thyroid hormone.
