A. Dear Nadia, I think diet is incredibly important for improving overall health, especially when it comes to blood sugar management and insulin resistance. I think your son could benefit from restricting all sugar and foods made with sugar, refined flour, and carbohydrates. While I understand this takes a huge effort, it can make a real difference. Blood sugar issues can manifest in many ways, including skin changes such as acanthosis nigricans. Sensible adjustments to diet and exercise can go a long way towards regulating blood sugar levels, but in addition, I would strongly urge your son to add a clinically studied Hintonia latiflora to his daily regimen. Hintonia latiflora has been studied in Europe for over 60 years. This botanical is great for prevention and treatment of blood sugar issues. Research has shown it can also help prevent people with pre-diabetes from developing type 2 diabetes.

The form I recommend is combined with trace amounts of B vitamins, folic acid, chromium, zinc, and vitamins C and E. These ingredients help protect against oxidative damage to blood vessels, stop nerve damage, and keep metabolism functioning well. In clinical studies, this combination was shown to lower A1C levels by 10%, improve fasting and postprandial blood sugar by 23% and 24% respectively, balance total cholesterol and reduce triglyceride levels, prevent hypoglycemia, and reduce medication use while under the care of a healthcare practitioner.

Additionally, I think a high-quality multivitamin and mineral formula is important to help bridge the gap with any nutrients that may be missing from the diet. I prefer a multivitamin and mineral formula taken several times per day and includes vitamins and minerals in their most absorbable and active forms. For example, the B vitamins should be in their active forms, which don’t require conversion in the liver. Also, minerals in the formula should be chelated, meaning attached to an amino acid for better absorption.
