I’m looking for some natural ways to prevent cancer.
Q. Dear Terry, “I’m looking for some natural ways to prevent cancer. Several of my close family members have different types of cancers. I’m really making an effort to eat better and exercise more. What else do you suggest?” – Wanda P., Louisville, KY
A. Dear Wanda, I think dietary changes and exercise are key factors in preventing many health conditions, including cancer. I believe it’s important to restrict all sugar and foods made with sugar, refined flour, and carbohydrates. That means soft drinks, sweetened and diet, crackers, candy, cookies, bread, pasta, cakes, and ice cream. While I understand this takes a huge effort, it can make a real difference. For additional information, I also recommend checking out the following websites: www.ketogenic-diet-resource.com and www.drperlmutter.com, and www.dietdoctor.com. The top three natural medicines I suggest for cancer prevention are curcumin, grape seed extract, and boswellia. These natural medicines each have unique ways by which they prevent cancer and work together synergistically.
Curcumin has been shown to prevent the changes that cause normal cells to become cancerous, stop tumor formation, and stop cancerous cells from migrating to other parts of the body (known as metastasis). Published studies on curcumin’s anticancer activity (so far) have found that it can suppress breast, prostate, liver, skin, colon and lung cancer cells. The curcumin I prefer is enhanced with turmeric essential oil. I would take this curcumin once or twice per day.
Grape seed extract has been found to inhibit tumor growth, stop cancer cells from communicating with healthy cells, and increasing apoptosis (cell death) in abnormal cells. Additionally, grape seed extract has been shown to target cancer stem cells, which are a subset of cancer cells that can go through self-renewal and play a huge role in cancer reoccurrence. I prefer French grape seed extract with low-molecular weight oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs) that are well absorbed. I would take grape seed extract once or twice per day.
Research shows that boswellia is able to positively affect our genes that are involved with suppressing tumor formation. Boswellia has been shown to decrease cell mutations that could lead to cancer formation and reduce the survival of mutated cells. The boswellia extract I recommend is standardized to high levels of AKBA and virtually free of BBA. I would take boswellia once or twice per day.
