If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only take three supplements with you, what would you take?
Q. Dear Terry, “If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only take three supplements with you, what would you take?” — Tabitha P., Palm Bay, FL
A. Dear Tabitha, This might be one of my hardest questions yet! If I could only take three supplements, it would have to be curcumin, boswellia, and French grape seed extract.
I think the combination of these three ingredients is the key to preventing, managing, or treating many of the complex diseases we see today.
Now let me clarify a little bit about each of these ingredients. The curcumin I choose would be high absorption and blended with turmeric essential oil. This type of curcumin has been clinically studied and shown to be very effective for numerous health conditions.
The boswellia I prefer is standardized to contain high levels of the key compound, AKBA, which gives boswellia many of its health benefits. While most of the compounds within boswellia are anti-inflammatory, there is one compound that is actually pro-inflammatory. Therefore, I recommend a boswellia that is low in beta-boswellic acid, which can actually cause inflammation.
Lastly, French grape seed extract that is tannin-free is effective for heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and many other chronic diseases. This specific type of grape seed extract contains OPCs (oligomeric proanthocyanidins) that are small enough to be absorbed and exert their benefits. I prefer French grape seed extract that contains a minimum of 80% low-molecular weight OPCs (tannin free).
