I recently adopted a rescue dog who is quite anxious.

Q. Dear Terry, “I recently adopted a rescue dog who is quite anxious. She’s been making progress in adjusting to her new home. I’m hoping there’s something natural I can give her to help make her feel more comfortable. Any recommendations?” – Millie C., Springfield, MA

A. Dear Millie, I encourage you to keep your dog’s veterinarian in the loop with any supplementation, as they may have additional insight.

When it comes to addressing anxiety, I would recommend adding narrow-leaved coneflower (Echinacea angustifolia) to your pet’s daily regimen. Researchers have discovered that compounds in this unique type of coneflower can help reduce anxiety as effectively as certain prescription medications, without the side effects.

I would give your dog this coneflower once or twice per day and it’s also safe enough to be given daily.  Make sure you look for a clinically studied, narrow-leaved coneflower root extract that is standardized for alkamides in the right ratio to reduce anxiety.

Healthy Regards!
