I have osteoporosis in both shoulders and it is quite painful.
Q. Dear Terry, “I have osteoporosis in both shoulders and it is quite painful. What do you recommend for this?” — Terry C., Philadelphia, PA
A. Dear Terry C., To address the pain, I recommend a combination of highly absorbable curcumin (BCM-95®), boswellia, DLPA and nattokinase. Each ingredient targets pain from a slightly different angle and they work great together. I would take these four ingredients up to 3 times a day, or as needed. Once the pain and inflammation are under control, it becomes easier for the body to enter repair mode.
When it comes to osteoporosis, I would recommend adding organic silica from horsetail to your daily regimen. Silica can be hard to obtain from diet alone but is crucial for building collagen and connective tissues- which form the foundation of our bones, ligaments, tendons and more!
Silica works by bringing more calcium into the bones and allowing less calcium to leach away from the bones. In fact, studies have shown that silica can increase calcium absorption by 50% and bone density by 15%.
I recommend taking 20-40 mg of organic silica daily. Silica tends to be poorly absorbed, so look for a product that contains organic silica, along with vitamin D3, bioflavonoids, and marine oil.
Other beneficial ingredients for bone density include vitamin D3, K1, calcium, magnesium, zinc, copper, manganese, boron, vitamin K2, Lactobacillus sporogenes and silicon. The minerals should be chelated so they are more easily absorbed and assimilated in the body. I would take these ingredients twice a day, preferably am and pm.
