I have just been told that my lower front tooth is being resorbed.

Q. Dear Terry, “I have just been told that my lower front tooth is being resorbed. There is inflammation and gum loss. The dentist told me it must come out, but it does not bother me. Is there something that could help me get rid of the inflammation, and also help with new gum growth? I do not want to get it pulled.” — James M., Vacaville, CA

A. Dear James, Because our mouth is where digestion begins, I think diet is extremely important. I think the best diet for healing consists of animal proteins like beef, chicken, bison, lamb, fish, and non-starchy vegetables and fruits. I also think nuts, seeds, and berries are great additions. For more information, you can review my diet at Terry’s Traditional Diet, or watch my webinar on the importance of Healthy Fats. For additional information, you could also check out the following websites: www.ketogenic-diet-resource.com and www.drperlmutter.com. I would also read the books, Grain Brain by Dr. David Perlmutter and Wheat Belly by Dr. William Davis.

I highly recommend you keep your dentist and primary health care practitioner involved, but in addition to dietary changes I do think I have some ingredients that will help.

Tooth resorption can be due to a variety of causes such as trauma to the mouth or affected tooth, chronic inflammation, and infections. To keep a healthy bacterial balance in the mouth and gums, I recommend concentrated plant oils of cinnamon, thyme, clove, and oregano. These ingredients have been proven to help destroy harmful bacteria without impacting the beneficial bacteria.

Now, not all plant oils should be taken internally, but the specific kind of plant oils I recommend are “fingerprinted” to ensure purity and safety. These concentrated plant oils are up to 100 times stronger than ordinary dry herbs and they’re extremely safe.

I would take 75 mg of these oils once or twice per day.

To support the health and strength of your teeth, I recommend silica. Silica is crucial when trying to rebuild teeth and bones. The form of silica I prefer is an organic ingredient obtained from the above-ground parts of the spring horsetail (Equisetum arvense) plant. In a special process, the silica in the plant is extracted still attached to the plant bioflavonoids that support its activity in the body. This unique botanical silica is then blended with a specific marine oil to enhance absorption, beneficial effects, and cell membrane penetration of the active compounds.

I would take 60 mg of organic silica per day the first month, then 40 mg per day thereafter.

To support healthy inflammation levels throughout the body, I recommend boswellia and curcumin. While they both are very strong anti-inflammatory ingredients, they each work on different inflammatory pathways. I would take 750 mg of a high absorption curcumin (blended with turmeric essential oil) that has been proven in published human studies. I recommend taking 500 mg twice per day of a boswellia that includes at least 10% or more of acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid (AKBA), the most active component of boswellia.

Healthy Regards!
