I have been diagnosed with heavy plaque in my aorta.
Q. Dear Terry, “I have been diagnosed with heavy plaque in my aorta. The side effects of my prescription medication are frightening. What is best for me to take?” — La Verne M., San Francisco, CA
A. Dear La Verne, I strongly encourage you to discuss any supplement usage with your primary care practitioner. With that being said, I think there are some natural ingredients that may help.
First, grape seed extract is one of the most beneficial nutrients for the cardiovascular system. Grape seed extract reduces high blood pressure, helps prevent blood clots from forming, protects the blood vessel walls from damaging free radical activity, and prevents the dangerous oxidation of LDL cholesterol, which can contribute to plaque accumulation in the arteries. The best grape seed extract comes from France and is standardized to contain only OPCs that are small enough to be absorbed. Many extracts contain tannins, which are too large to be effectively absorbed and don’t contribute to your health the same way that small OPCs do. I would take French grape seed extract twice per day.
I also think you could benefit from adding mesoglycan to your daily regimen. Over time, when damage occurs inside of our blood vessels, the body sends repair substances (like cholesterol and calcium) to the site. This accumulation of repair substances is what’s commonly referred to as plaque. Mesoglycan provides glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) – the building blocks of blood vessels – which means it can do what drugs can’t – repair and rebuild blood vessels. This amazing compound provides a world of benefits for the entire circulatory system. When choosing a product, look for mesoglycan that comes from a porcine (or pig) source – this ensures it’s bioidentical to the same building blocks found in our own bodies. I would take mesoglycan twice daily.
