I am interested in Hintonia, but have never heard of it before.

A. Dear Joshua, Very happy to hear you enjoyed the diabetes webinar, we have all of our previously recorded webinars available on YouTube as well. While Hintonia latiflora is new to the United States, this botanical has been used traditionally in Mexico and Central America for hundreds of years, and has been studied in Germany for over 60 years. A beautiful tree with white flowers that grows in the desert, H. latiflora is subjected to an intense climate. Toughing out monsoon-like rainy seasons and scorching dry spells has created a powerful defense mechanism within the plant itself. The beneficial features of Hintonia are made all the stronger by its ability to survive and thrive in a difficult environment. While Hintonia has been used traditionally for gastrointestinal complaints and diabetes, modern science also has an impressive amount of clinical research to validate these uses.

This botanical has been clinically studied in Europe for over 60 years for its effects on type 2 diabetes and has shown impressive results. Hintonia bark contains compounds that help keep blood sugar levels stable. Clinical work with this botanical was so effective that individuals were able to reduce or entirely dispense with their insulin medication in type 2 diabetes. This was of course done under the supervision of healthcare practitioners.

Hintonia is also able to inhibit an enzyme called alpha-glucosidase, which releases glucose (sugar) from foods, particularly carbohydrates. The bark is also rich in a polyphenol called coutareagenin, which also has other blood sugar-controlling benefits. This means that instead of blood sugar hitting your bloodstream like a freight train, the response is more controlled and prevents levels from spiking.

Clinical results have shown that Hintonia, combined with key nutrients for blood sugar control, can lower A1C (hemoglobin A1C) by 10%, improve fasting and postprandial blood sugar (by 23% and 24%, respectively), balance total cholesterol and reduce triglyceride levels, prevent hypoglycemia (undesirable drops in blood sugar), and reduce medication usage (under the care of a healthcare practitioner).
