I am having a problem with my lower legs swelling.
Dear Terry, “I am having a problem with my lower legs swelling. They seem to swell more as the day goes on, but after I sleep they are fairly normal the next morning. Any advice would be appreciated.” — Billie P., Oakland, CA
Dear Billie, I would first recommend that you consult with your healthcare practitioner to rule out the possibility of an underlying condition. If everything checks out, I would then suggest trying the following options.
I believe you would benefit greatly by adding red vine leaf and butcher’s broom to your daily regimen. You may have already heard of these two powerful botanicals. Red vine leaf contains resveratrol, anthocyanins, and a range of other protective polyphenols and has been clinically proven to relieve the pain and swollen legs associated with varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). Butcher’s broom is also extremely well known for treating varicose veins, other symptoms of CVI, and circulatory health in general.
Together, these two powerful botanicals have the ability to strengthen the veins of the legs and can help stop the pain you are experiencing. When looking for these two botanical extracts, make sure to choose ones that are standardized for their active compounds. I would recommend taking 1,000 mg total of red vine leaf and butcher’s broom twice daily.
Another excellent supplement is mesoglycan, a naturally occurring substance found in the body. Mesoglycan is an excellent source of glycosaminoglycans (also known as GAGs) – vital and necessary components that build the walls of our blood vessels and arteries. Other examples of GAGs include chondroitin and hyaluronic acid. Mesoglycan works on the actual formation of blood vessel walls, helping them to be strong, yet flexible, plus it helps keep blood moving through our arteries and blood vessels. I recommend taking 100 mg of mesoglycan daily.
Keep in mind that while you may start to see changes within several weeks – you need to be patient – it may take up to 3-6 months to see full benefits. Good luck!
