In the New Year, we celebrate the Feast of Epiphany — the time when we traditionally recognize the three kings (or wise men, or whatever your belief) who arrived to visit the Christ child and present their gifts.
In a very real way, a new year is an amazing gift from God — a gift we should spend wisely! If you have a dream or a goal, don’t hide it under a bushel — make it happen. Show others what you can do.
How did the three kings get to Bethlehem? One step at a time. And you can achieve your goal by taking one step at a time, too. How do you do it? Write it down! It may sound simplistic, but writing down your goal is a powerful tool that focuses your spiritual and intellectual resources. Put your goal in a place where you will see it every day. Read it. Take a few minutes to reflect on it. Envision yourself achieving your goal. What would that look like? How would you feel? What would you do if you met your goal? Allow these thoughts to form pictures in your mind.
Now watch your dreams become a reality. You may not fully know how you are going to reach your destination, but if you keep your goal in sight every day, opportunities you never expected will materialize that help you become healthier and healthier. This system works. I know, because I use this myself to set goals and always keep them in sight.
Remember, too, that you are a gift to this world. In fact, one of your goals may be simply to be there more than ever for others this coming year — it may very well be the reason you are here. So consider that as a goal, too. Sometimes, when you take the focus off of yourself, your mission becomes clearer.
I wish you a year of happiness and health, of giving and receiving many blessings. May all your dreams come true. Happy New Year!
