Life on this earth would not be possible without plants

Life on this earth would not be possible without plants, and 95% of the world’s population depends on plants for their medicine.  The U.S. represents 5% of the world’s population and yet we consume 50 to 60% of the world’s production of manufactured drugs.  Is it possible that these new synthetic, manufactured drugs are the cause of many of our diseases?  When drugs are advertised on TV, the long list of side effects sounds more dangerous than the drug advertised for the treatment of a specific disease.
