Antioxidants Benefit Patients with Nasal Polyposis

In a study involving 34 patients with nasal polyposis, oral supplementation with vitamins A, C, E, and selenium, along with intranasal steroid treatment was found to be associated with significantly lower tissue malondialdehyde levels, a marker of oxidative stress, and a greater reduction in tissue and serum malondialdehyde, as compared with subjects who received treatment with intranasal steroid alone. The authors state, “This is the first report of the positive effects of adding antioxidants to steroid therapy for nasal polyposis.”
