Dietary Vitamin D and Risk of Cutaneous Melanoma
In a population-based, case-control study involving 380 cases and 719 controls in a northern region of Italy, an inverse association was found between dietary vitamin D and melanoma risk according to both crude and adjusted analyses, with the strongest associations found among males and older subjects. The authors conclude, “These findings suggest that, at the relatively low levels of intake observed in this sample, an inverse relation between dietary vitamin D and risk of cutaneous malignant melanoma may exist.” Additional research is warranted.
