Terry’s Top Ten: Best Foods

April 6, 2012

Sometimes, it can be a little confusing knowing what to eat. It seems like there are always conflicting reports about what is healthy and what is not, and it can be tempting to just give up and eat for convenience and comfort.

But there is a better way. Instead, you can be smart about the kinds of foods you eat – foods that taste delicious, make satisfying additions to your meals, and provide amazing beneficial nutrients. In fact, many of the foods you may already enjoy are truly nature’s pharmacies. As Hippocrates said over 2,000 years ago, “Let your food be your medicine, and your medicine be your food”. It was good advice then, and remains so today.

To start off, I can guarantee you that these foods will make you healthier and feel much better than anything on the list of Top Ten Bad Foods ever could. And you may be happily surprised by some of my choices here.

So in this Terry Talks Nutrition®, we’re going to look at my favorites and what makes them ideal choices. Consider this your detailed shopping list, and bring your appetite!

Just Ask Terry . . .

Q. Hello Terry, “I would like to know which form of omega-3s is better:  flax oil or fish oil?   As a breast cancer survivor I have to watch out for products that contribute to too much estrogen production.  I have recently heard that fish oil is preferred over flax for people with estrogen positive breast cancer.  Do you know if this is correct?” — Marjorie K., Fayetteville, GA

Q. Dear Terry, “I am trying to increase my daily intake of fruits and vegetables. I do use a juicer because it helps me incorporate more fruits and vegetables (and a wider variety) compared to what I would normally eat.  So if I juice fresh fruits and veggies and drink it, that should still be ok, shouldn't it?”— Noreen F., Fort Wayne, IN

Q. Terry, “My husband had a metal plate placed in his right arm several years ago.  Ever since, his arm, from the elbow down to the back of his hand, easily bruises and bleeds. Do you have any ideas what this could be and if there is anything he can take to stop it from happening?” — Sandy S., Sacramento, CA

Terry's Pick of the Week

You Need All Your Vitamins and Minerals

A one-a-day cannot provide all the vitamins and minerals that your body requires, and especially not the quantity that your body requires.  I don’t want you to be misled and think that a one-a-day is adequately covering all your vitamins and minerals.  It cannot be done because of the volume of nutrients required.  If you choose a one-a-day, that is your choice just as long as you realize you are not getting all your daily requirements.  It takes at least 6 tablets or capsules daily to provide you with a full spectrum of nutrients.  If you go from a one-a-day to six-a-day of a high quality vitamin and mineral supplement, you will notice a tremendous difference in a few months.  If you really want to be well, this gives you the best nutritional foundation.

Today's Word from Joel and Victoria

Direction and Protection

God has many ways of pouring out His favor and goodness on our lives. Scripture says that He is your sun and shield. What does the sun do for us? It lights our way, keeps us warm, and nourishes the plants of the earth so that we can have food. Think about that for a moment. The earth is sustained by its relationship to the sun, and God wants to sustain you through your relationship with Him. He wants to give you direction and be your shield of protection against all the fiery darts of the enemy.

In the natural, it’s easy to fall into the trap of relying on the things of this world to direct and protect us. But when we put our trust and hope in our heavenly Father, not only does it enrich our relationship with Him, it opens the door to the supernatural realm. It opens the door to supernatural favor, wisdom, divine connections, new ideas and so much more. When you trust in Him, He shines His light on your path and leads you forward into the blessing and victory He has prepared for you!

A Prayer for Today

Father in heaven, today I open my heart and mind to You. I choose to put my trust in You and receive Your blessing of direction and protection. Show me Your ways that I may walk with You today and always in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Motivational Thought for the Day

"All successful people, men and women, are big dreamers. They imagine what their future could be, ideal in every respect, and then they work every day toward their distant vision, that goal or purpose."

— Brian Tracy: is a self-help author and motivational speaker

Today's Scripture:

“For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless”

(Psalm 84:11, NIV)
