Are You Hypothyroid?

Key Words
thyroid, hypothyroid, low thyroid, Iodine, l-tyrosine

One of the questions I'm most commonly asked is how to know when it is the thyroid gland, and not something else, that is causing a person to feel less than their best. Below is a list of common symptoms of thyroid problems. If you answer "yes" to three or more please keep reading to learn more about treating low thyroid (hypothyroid) hormone levels and how you can keep your thyroid gland functioning at its peak.

  • Aching muscles?
  • Are you always fatigued or exhausted?
  • Are you irritable or impatient?
  • Are your hands and feet usually cold?
  • Do you often feel depressed or anxious?
  • Is your hair coarse, dry, and lifeless?
  • Is your skin dry?
  • Loss of libido?
  • Gaining weight easily without eating more?
  • Do you have insomnia?
  • Slow heartbeat?
  • Are you losing your enthusiasm for life?
  • Are you listless, forgetful and anti-social?

Just Ask Terry . . .

Q.  Dear Terry,  “I have been trying to lose weight all my life. Every diet I try works for a while, and then I stop losing weight.  Do you have any suggestions as to what I can use to supplement my diet, and do you have a nutritional plan that may help?”  Sandra J., Akron, OH

A. Dear Sandra, I really don’t believe in dieting, because it is perceived to be a way to lose weight, and once the individual reaches their goal, they resume their normal pattern of eating and regain their former weight--plus an additional 15-20%. Our diet and lifestyle have changed so drastically in the last 100 years that we are no longer eating a natural, healthy diet. Anyone who wants to lose weight should begin a dietary intake of lean proteins, healthy fats, a moderate intake of complex carbohydrates and 7 to 9 servings of fruits and vegetables per day.  An ideal menu plan would be to eliminate all grains, sugar, salt, refined carbohydrates and all soft drinks whether they are “diet” or not. Eat 5 or 6 small meals throughout the day.  For a more descriptive and detailed menu plan go to www.TerryTalksNutrition.com and click on “Terry’s Menu Plan”.  While you’re there, click on “Terry’s Exercise Plan,” because you can’t lose weight without exercise. Then dietary food supplements can be added to assist you in losing weight. There are three supplements that I like in particular to help manage your weight loss program, including products to help reduce carb and fat absorption and to support healthy metabolism. You can find more information at the above website, as I have written extensively on this topic.

Terry's healthy comment of the week:

Do I want low cholesterol? Not in your life! We make all our hormones from cholesterol including our sex hormones. You probably heard how valuable vitamin D is. Yes, we make that from cholesterol too. It’s not the sunshine vitamin, it’s the sun radiating on the cholesterol beneath our layer of skin. People with low cholesterol do not live as long as people with high cholesterol so what good is it to have low cholesterol?  Since God created my body to produce 90% to 100% of the cholesterol in my body, there must be a better reason to have high cholesterol than what scientists have been touting.  I’ll keep my high cholesterol.

Today's Word from Joel and Victoria:

A Heart at Peace

Did you know the best thing you can do for health is to set your heart at peace with God? Peace is such a powerful position. It is a position of life and strength. Peace literally means "to set at one again." In other words, we have peace when our minds and hearts are in alignment with the Word of God.

It's so easy to let the pressures and distractions of life pull our thoughts away from the Father. It doesn't take long before we are so focused on earthly things that we feel overwhelmed and all stressed out. But, we weren't meant to live anxious about life, we were meant to live in peace.

Today, choose to keep your heart at peace by staying focused on God the Father. Give life to your body by staying in agreement with Him. Let His peace guard your heart so that you can be equipped to live the abundant life He has promised to you!

A Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word which is life to my soul. I praise You because You are the Prince of Peace and give peace to my heart and mind. I choose to stay focused on You today. Thank You for guiding my every step. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
