Q. Hi Terry, “I have been experiencing a lot of stiffness in my joints, mainly my knees and hips when I take daily walks. After I’m done, I feel like the tin can man on the Wizard of Oz. I also experience a lot of tenderness and soreness in the same areas. I need to work out every day but the stiffness, tenderness and soreness never leave. I can barely walk up the stairs without being in pain afterwards.  What can I try?” — Dana K., Biscayne, FL

A. Dear Dana, The best solution I can offer you is the following, which has been a tremendous success for thousands of people. Two formulas, and one diet change equals healthy relief from your problems. The first formula combines bioavailable curcumin with boswellia, DLPA (dl-phenylalanine) and nattokinase. Curcumin is hard to absorb, so make sure it is in a bioavailable form, or you will be wasting your money. Look for curcumin that has published human studies showing it has up to 10 times the absorption of plain curcumin. This should be achieved with a micronized curcumin which is then blended with turmeric essential oil for optimal absorption. Do not use curcumin mixed with piperine. Piperine, a concentrated black pepper extract, interacts with a great deal of prescription medications, increases your absorption of certain environmental toxins, and is hard on the liver (see more on piperine elsewhere in these archives). The boswellia should be standardized to a minimum 15% AKBA, a particularly potent boswellic acid, and should be screened for reduced beta boswellic acid content, which should be no more than 5%. Beta boswellic acid actually increases inflammation, and most boswellia extracts have 20 to 30% of this problematic acid in their supplements. Take 1 to 2 capsules of this formula three times daily. Once the pain is manageable, you can slowly adjust the dosage downward, as in time you may need less to maintain the same benefits. Next use the bioactive form of vitamin B6 called pyridoxal-5-phosphate, or P-5-P. To properly activate its beneficial health effects, it should be blended with a high quality magnesium, like magnesium glycinate. Take 1 to 2 capsules of this formula twice daily. Follow my diet described at www.TerryTalksNutrition.com.  You can find it in the left hand column on the home page.  Just click on “Terry’s Diet for All Mankind.” I think you will be amazed at the difference these few changes can make for you.

Healthy regards!
